Israeli Strike Kills 22 In Beirut, Hezbollah Leader Reportedly Survives Attack Targetting Him
Israeli airstrikes killed 22 people and injured over 100 in central Beirut on 10 October, Lebanese authorities reported. The strikes targeted a densely populated residential area in the heart of the city, causing significant damage to apartment buildings and small shops. Wafiq Safa, head of Hezbollah's liaison and coordination unit, was the intended target but survived the attack, according to security sources. This marked a shift in Israel's focus towards Hezbollah officials involved in security and political affairs. Unlike previous strikes, no evacuation warnings were issued, and this area, distant from Hezbollah's headquarters in Beirut’s southern suburbs, had not been attacked before. Lebanon’s Health Ministry confirmed that among the dead was a family of eight, including three children, who had fled from southern Lebanon. Both Israel and Hezbollah have yet to comment on the incident.
